Ben Walsh (of Velshur) is playing live at YGCC on Friday 5th January from 7pm!
At only 22 he’s has played over 300 shows in the last 3 years through 7 different countries with his band and as a solo performer. Velshur’s sound is a fresh blend of soul warming funk, rock, blues, folk and soul.
With a work ethic like no other, a combination of residencies and touring saw Benny and his band Velshur play over 100 shows in four months last year, very quickly building their fanbase through their uplifting and energetic shows, and a reputation for performing their unique brand of soul warming funk rock, through some of Australia’s greatest venues such as The Great Northern Hotel in Byron Bay, The Steyne Hotel for Manly Food and Wine Festival to the trendy Bucket List on Bondi Beach.
In the months since, the band have been working equally hard to put together their debut EP, produced and engineered by Blake Eiseman in Georgia, Atlanta (Beyonce, Kanye West, Pink, Pearl Jam) and Nicholas Wilson (Wolfmother, Sticky Fingers, Seasick Steve) which was introduced in early June with the debut single ‘Spanish Sound’, recently peaking at #2 on Australia’s Triple J Unearthed Charts in October 2015
Released 2 months early in the USA on “Indie Anthems Vol 5”, the single ‘Spanish Sound’ was handed out on download cards to festival patrons at Coachella Valley Music Festival in California, gathering the band attention on top40.com and numerous other newspapers and magazines throughout the U.S.A.
The band recently embarked on an international tour through the U.K and Europe to support the single, receiving play on the BBC, as well as regular rotation online. With national magazine ‘Mistree Magazine’ (UK) giving the song a 5 out of 5 review.
